1 Benchmarking good practice in qualitative management research Funded by the ESRC Research Methodology programme Catherine Cassell, University of Sheffield Gillian Symon, Birkbeck College Phil Johnson, Sheffield Hallam University

2 Aim of the project The overall aim is to enhance good practice in the use of qualitative methods in management and organizational research

3 Specific aims Conduct a systematic investigation into current perceptions of qualitative methods in management research, and perceived barriers to their use Identify perceptions of good practice in conducting qualitative management research Develop materials and training workshops to encourage informed and reflexive practice in qualitative management research Develop an appropriate, specific and accessible set of benchmarking criteria for assessing qualitative management research which takes into account variations of perceptions of good practice.

4 Training provided Workshops: For representatives of the expert panels and members of stakeholder groups, as part of a cascading process. Resource pack: A pack which provides a range of resources to support qualitative research training, practice and assessment. Aimed at a range of stakeholder groups.
