Custom Intermittent Continuous

3 Custom Production Making one product at a time from start to finish.
Each finished product is unique and slightly different. Generally expensive. Takes a lot of time. Workers must be skilled. Custom is work made one piece at time a Materials and Processes

4 Custom Manufacturing

5 Intermittent Manufacturing
Key Elements: Production is done in batches Definite starting and stopping points in production Requires exact planning from management Advantages: Produce goods in sizable quantities Can produce different types of products by changing tools in the factory Flexibility to meet market demand Disadvantages: Lost worker production when retooling Requires more tools to make different products Scheduling production runs

6 Intermittent Manufacturing

7 Continuous Manufacturing
Key Elements: Produce the same item over and over Utilizes assembly lines and automation to speed production Workers are trained in one task Used for high volume production Advantages: Saves time --- Fastest form of production Efficient use of materials --- Less waste Requires minimal worker training Can produce enormous quantities of a product Disadvantages: Inflexible --- Cannot easily change to make different products Quantity rather than quality Overproduction drives down the price of product

8 Continuous Manufacturing
