1 Lesson 4-2 Using Intercepts
Obj: The student will be able to 1) Find x- and y-intercepts and interpret their meaning in real-world situations 2) Use x- and y-intercepts to graph lines HWK: p all, even, all, even Vocab: 1) y-intercept 2) x-intercept

2 Find the x- and y-intercepts

3 Ex 2) 3x – 2y = 12

4 Ex 3) The Sandia Peak Tramway in Albuquerque, New Mexico, travels a distance of about 4500 meters to the top of Sandia Peak. Its speed is 300 meters per minute. The function f(x) = 4500 – 300x gives the tram’s distance in meters from the top of the peak after x minutes. Graph this function and find the intercepts. What does each intercept represent?

5 Use intercepts to graph the line describes by each equation
Ex 4) 2x – 4y = 8

6 Ex 5) y = x
