2 America after the Revolution
George Washington is elected as America’s president Native Americans CEDED their land (Voluntarily gave it up) 1803- USA gets Louisiana Purchase from France USA grows by 10 states Louisiana Purchase

3 Conclusion of the Revolution
At the end of the American Revolution, Georgia was the smallest and poorest of al the 13 states. However Georgia quickly expanded due to several factors.

4 Why did Georgia expand? The Invention of the cotton gin and railroads
Land cessions and distributions Forced removal of Native American tribes.

5 What else was happening?
During this time period, Georgia established the FIRST state supported public University in the nation. However, Georgia was also involved in one of the most infamous examples of government corruption in history.

6 THE UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA
Established on January 27, 1785 Georgia’s General Assembly approved the charter. UGA is America’s FIRST public university Lyman Hall – Georgia’ governor that the time Improved Education = Growth of the state Granted land to create the university Abraham Baldwin wrote the University charter, and was the first president of the University

7 Louisville, Georgia Louisville, Georgia was Georgia third capital
It was selected because it was the center of Georgia’s current population. It was moved in an attempt to expand Georgia westward. It is currently located in Jefferson County. The capital moved in 1807 for various reasons.

9 Methodist and Baptist Church
By 1830s – these two denominations are the largest in the state of Georgia Known as the Second Great Awakening They were popular among the working class on the frontier, and small towns throughout the state. Many slaved converted to Methodist and Baptist These churches targeted the plantations. Another way to gain members would be through CAMP MEETINGS.
