Severe diffuse CD with dense fibrinoid deposition was identified in the basal plates of egg donor placentas (C, D). Nondonor IVF (A, B) placentas did not reveal CD in majority of the cases (92%), and the fibrinoid deposition was not increased.

CD in egg donor IVF cases was mainly composed of CD4+ T cells and CD56+ NK cells.

Morphometric analysis was used to quantify the immunoreactivity for each inflammatory cell type (CD45, leukocyte; CD3, T cell; CD4, T helper cells; CD8, T cell; CD56, NK cell). Immunoreactive cells were counted and normalized to total cell count in the same focus, and the percent of positive immunoreactivity was calculated for each antibody. Data are depicted as means ± SEM in the graph (∗P<.05). Leukocytic (CD45+) cell infiltration was significantly increased in the basal plates from egg donor pregnancies (P=.03). These cells were mostly CD3+ T cells in both groups. In contrast to nondonor IVF placentas, the number of CD4+ (P=.02) and CD56+ (P=0.03) cells was significantly increased in the basal plates of egg donor placentas. CD8+ cell counts were comparable in both groups.
