2. Valedictorian Nominations
We will select two members of the grad class to represent you on May 16.
This will be done by casting ballots immediately following a grad assembly.
Nominations for valedictorians will close on May 8.

3. What do admin look for in a Valedictorian
They must be a student in good standing.
They must have five student nominees and one staff sponsor included in their nomination paperwork.
They need to be willing to engage in writing, proofreading, listening to advice, accepting coaching and so on. (no one will be allowed to wing it on the day of grad).
They have to have a record of responsible behaviour when handed a microphone.

4. What grads should be looking for in a valedictorian
Someone who will represent all of the Grad Class of 2018, and not seize this opportunity to make it about his or her own personal glory.
Someone who will make an eloquent and memorable speech which will reflect positively on the whole grad class.
Someone who will work well with his or her co-valedictorian, whoever that may be.

5. Valedictorian Committee
Being an unsuccessful valedictorian nominee still carries responsibilities:
Other speaking engagements including year-end assembly and new student orientation
Last minute grad decisions, particularly those that could be divisive

6. This contract has been deemed necessary based on the conduct of previous grad classes. It stems from misunderstandings around attending dry grad, usually by students who never attend meetings, or by their parents who never attend grad parent meetings.
Its overarching purpose is to ensure that everyone knows what is required, why it is required, and to formally acknowledge that the student and parent will comply with these requirements

7. Dry Grad came into being because graduating students would sometimes befall horrible tragedies, including death, because of unsafe behaviour during their grad celebrations.
As you would expect, the repercussions of a young person dying at this point in his or her life affects everyone.
In response to this, the Dry Grad movement was created to accomplish one thing – Keep them safe by keeping them sober!

8. Conditions we must meet to honour our commitment to Dry Grad
We must provide a desirable alternative to going out and getting drunk or drugged.
We must provide a high level of supervision and security to ensure that the commitment to sobriety is being honoured by all.
We must provide a closed venue, to ensure this is maintained.
We need to run late to ensure that Dry Grad is not immediately followed by a wet grad party.

9. The efficacy of Dry Grad
Not everyone believes in Dry Grad, and there are those, parents and students, who would prefer to celebrate with intoxicants.
Some of suggested that Dry Grads are hopeless failures, because people just go out and drink the following day.
While this may be true, the facts are not in dispute. The number of graduating students dying in British Columbia has dropped significantly with the implementation of Dry Grads across the province. Dry Grads help save lives, which is why we do them.

10. The Dry Grad contract must be read and signed by the graduate and by his or her parent.
This signed document must be submitted to the office as part of the checklist of processes that must be completed prior to the issue of Grad tickets.
Students who refuse to sign do not go to Dry Grad. Naturally, we want everyone at all of their grad activities, but if we know in advance that a graduate is not going to honour the conditions of Dry Grad, we are not in a position to include that person.

11. Remember the purpose of the Contract
Ultimately, the contract exists so that students and parents know exactly what is expected at Dry Grad.
In the past, when a student or parent didn’t know the rules, they challenged the parent supervisors and arguments ensued. This adversely affected the celebration for everyone.
By ensuring everyone knows what they are signing on for, we hope to have a more enjoyable, more harmonious grad event for graduates and for their parents.
