Pythagorean Problem Solving

For science class, you and your partners have created a small car that travels 2m per second. You plan to test it in your dining room. The longest distance in the room is the diagonal. Use the Pythagorean Theorem to determine how long it will take the car to travel the diagonal of the room.

Since your shower has a tendency to fire in all directions, you decide to tile the entire bathroom to keep things clean. Youre going to do the floor, and all three walls. If the square tiles that you are using are 7cm by 7cm, how many tiles will you use to finish the room?

You plan on installing cabinets with a counter top along the floor of the shortest wall of your kitchen. The cabinets will be 0.9 m tall. There will be nothing above them. Use the Pythagorean Theorem to find the length of the cabinets. If you plan on painting above the cabinets, what area will you need to paint?

Lately, you and your spouse have been arguing. You decide to split the master bedroom evenly right down the diagonal. Things have been so bad, that you actually, decide to build a wall along this divide. Use the Pythagorean theorem to find the length of this wall. If wall paper costs $6 per meter squared, how much will it cost to wallpaper your new bedroom?

Carbon monoxide is a deadly gas that has no smell and no taste. Every new house should be equipped with a carbon monoxide detector. If the detectors are effective for a total 250 cubic meters, how many will you need to place in your house to be fully protected?
