1 Being, Believing, Becoming
Welcome Time: 3 Minutes Welcome to this conference groupings. For the next 70+ minutes we will explore some realities, visions, dreams and plans for our conference-all bundle in 3 headings- Being, Believing and Becoming.

Introductions- My Name is , give brief description of your job beyond your title. Allow time for participants to introduce themselves by giving: -Name -Conference -Office, Position or what brings them to LDD. Housekeeping Note where the bathrooms are and any other items that you have noted and need to be addresses for the comfort and wellbeing of participants.

3 Purpose of this session: To explore venues and practices to expand the work and ministry of United Methodist Women by emphasizing the organizational priorities.

4 Objectives Take inventory of what the Conference/District UMW is actively offering to the larger church and society. Identify resources and priorities to attract women in the conference/district to engage in the organization. Explore opportunities and develop plans for advocacy and direct/indirect involvement in issues affecting society and concern/needs in your Conference/District. Review Goal and Objectives Being- Who we are as and members of UMW and what are we contributing. Take inventory the Conference/District UMW is actively offering to the larger church and society (Position) Believing – Are doing all we can and using all the resources we have? Identify resources and priorities to attract and engage all women in their conference/district to engage in the organization. (Engage) Becoming – How to make a greater impact. Explore opportunities and develop plans for advocacy and direct and indirect involvement in issues affecting society and concerns or need in your conference or district. (Mobilize)

5 Sisterhood Of Grace Listen actively - with head and heart.
Speak from your own experience. Be aware of body language. Respect confidentiality. Remind them of the covenant of Sisterhood of Grace and the time here is to work together however we still abide by those values and practices. Following 2 screens- Sisterhood of Grace

6 Sisterhood Of Grace Expect unfinished business –
both discomfort and joy. Be mindful of our interrelatedness with one another and all of God’s creation – celebrate diversity and practice sustainability.

7 Resources Resources Point out to the resources that we’ll be using:
- On a Path for Mission Handouts 1- On Building Relationships 2- My Role in Expanding UMW 3- Moving Forward Data/Information on Conference/district ethnic ministries and churches where there is no UMW unit Ask them to get have it ready- make sure to keep one copy of the information from each conference and place it in the envelope provided.

Underline- words of phrases that inspire and challenge you   Share (4 Minutes) Being Instructions: Read pages 2 & 3 of On a Path for Mission and as they read to underline/highlight/make note of phrases or words that inspire and/or challenges you. Briefly listen from one person about one of her challenges or inspirations- by mindful of the time

9  Resource Data related to your Conference/District list of ethnic ministries and churches with no UMW units Share In groups of 3-5 (across conferences)   -Exciting and innovative things are happening in your conference/district -How is UMW present with women in ethnic ministries Being In cross-conference groups of 3-5. Share what exciting and innovative things are happening in your conference or district

Believing Read (3 Minutes) pgs 4-7 from On a Path to Mission. Groups by conference- they may divide in smaller groups depending on the size of the total group Suggest that the groups be 3-5 persons

17 Personal Time (4 Minutes) Complete Handout 2- My Role in Expanding UMW

18 Brief Conversation in triads (5 Minutes) How to prepare the next generation of leaders and your role in expanding UMW Becoming Identify the needs in order to prepare the next generation of leaders. This will involve way to transition the present leadership into mentoring roles (How) In terms of needs how are they fulfilled? Explore what resources are available within their leadership team (refer to completed Handout 2) What do they need form UMW National

19 What is the next step? (10 Minutes) Handout 3- Moving Forward Identify and plan how to mobilize on an issue/need/priority. Becoming Depending on the number of participants per conference assign them to start the process for at least one item per category (issue/need/priority).

20 What is the next step? Continue working on Handout 3 as a conference/district
Becoming Encourage them to continue working on this plan in their next leadership team meetings. Address the president and secretaries to make sure the continuation of this work is placed in future agendas.

21 Closing Thought Depending on the number of participants per conference assign them to start the process for at least one item per category (issue/need/priority).
