Where does a rhetorical analysis essay fit on the prose continuum? What would you expect the thesis of a rhetorical analysis essay to contain? How would you describe the structure of closed form prose writing

Hook – present the issue in an interesting way Thesis – give an overall evaluation of the rhetoric within the source Forecasting – tell readers in what order you will discuss the rhetorical appeals in the body paragraphs Body Transition Topic sentence – give the evaluation of a specific rhetorical appeal that the body paragraph will focus on Evidence – quotes or paraphrase of examples from the text (Follow this structure for each rhetorical appeal) Conclusion Thesis Clincher - leave the readers with something interesting or thought provoking to heighten the impact of your essay

In your unit 1 groups Read through one of the sample essays and answer the following questions How does the sample essay follow the closed form prose conventions we discussed in class? (try to identify specific sections or elements you can find) What is the thesis of the essay? What is an example of one topic sentence from the body paragraphs of the essay? How much evidence is provided in each of the body paragraphs of the essay?
