2 HOW TO PREPARE KNOW YOUR PLATFORM BACKWARDS AND FORWARDS
What is your party’s position on EACH of the 6 Topics KNOW KEY POINTS AND STATISTICS KNOW THE KEY POINTS OF YOUR OPPONENTS PLATFORMS Know what each of the opposing party’s stances are on the issues Reasons that either that stance is wrong, or, yours is better YOU, YOUR CAMPAIGN MANAGER AND WRITER (OR WHOLE GROUP) CAN QUIZ YOU OR RUN MOCK DEBATE Meet one day and go over it as a group Test your candidate – get them used to answering questions about your platform, why you think your stance on the issues is the best, etc.

3 DEBATE DAY HAVE A QUICK OPENING STATEMENT
1 sentence; think back to Leslie’s opening statement on Parks & Rec PREPARE FOR “WHAT IF…” OR “HOW CAN YOU…” TYPE OF QUESTIONS What if I like the healthcare I have under Obamacare? How can You be pro-environment, but still support fossil fuels? How can you ensure a terrorist attack doesn’t happen here? STICK TO THE 2 – MINUTE RULE Don’t (always) be polite You’re competing against all the other parties. Mention why an opposing candidate isn’t the right choice, why they’re wrong…but don’t get personal HAVE A QUICK CLOSING SATEMENT THAT REITTERATES WHY YOU AND YOUR PARTY ARE THE BEST CHOICE 3 OR SENTENCES AT THE MAX Drive the Point home – why should people vote for you?? Why are you the best for the job????
