2 What Data Are We Looking At?
Purpose To get comfortable talking about our school data To identify our strengths and weaknesses To create an action plan that focuses on improving student achievement What Data Are We Looking At? This presentation has several purposes. First, this presentation is meant to get us talking about our school’s data. This is important because looking at our school’s data can ultimately help us raise student achievement. We are also going to find our school’s areas of strengths and weaknesses. Finally, we are going to use this data and our knowledge about our strengths and weaknesses to determine what steps we need to take next and eventually create an action plan. This presentation will focus in on three sets of data: our school demographics, reading CRCT data, and math CRCT data. Demographics Reading CRCT Data Math CRCT Data

3 Demographics We are going to start with our school demographics.

4 Demographics Our first graph represents our school enrollment for the last five school years. As you can see, the number of students enrolled has not had any significant increases or decreases.

5 Demographics This graph continues to look at student enrollment, but this time we are also looking at the number of students we have enrolled by race.

6 Demographics Let’s look at the changes we have had in the student population over the last five years. This graph points out our changes in the student population by race. Over the last five, there have been some slight variations. Our Black population of students is slightly increasing, but there are not any significant increases or decreases.

7 Demographics This time we are looking at changes in student population by looking at the subgroups. From the graph, you can see that the number of students receiving free or reduce lunch is slightly increasing each school year. Also, our EIP population peaked during the school year, but has since declined each year after.

8 In Summary… There have only been slight variations in enrollment numbers over the past 5 years The Black population is slightly increasing Number of students receiving free or reduced lunch is increasing Number of EIP students are decreasing Here are a few observations we made….

9 Reading CRCT Grades 2 to 5 Now, we will look at our school wide Reading CRCT scores.

10 Reading CRCT: Grades 2 to 5
Let’s start by looking at the percentage of students performing at or above proficiency on the Reading CRCT test. Remember that students must score at least an 800 to be in the “meets” category and they must score at least an “850” to be in the “exceeds” category. Looking at our results for reading, each school year, the percentage of students at or above proficiency has increased. There has been a growth of over 20% since 2006! You may also notice that while our percentage of students in the meets category has decreased, the percentage of students in the exceeds category has increased. It appears that students are moving out of the meets category and into the exceeds category. n=377 n=428 n=404 n=391 n=388

How does Austell compare to the state and the district? In previous years we were performing below both district and state, but, 2010, we are all performing at a similar level in reading.

When looking at Reading CRCT performance by race, you can see that the Latino population had a dip in their percentage of students at or above proficiency in 2007, but In 2010, Black, Latino, and White students performed at similar levels that are increasing each year. n = 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 Black 208 272 261 252 251 Latino/a 64 60 50 53 White 88 69 67 70

Finally, let’s look at reading scores disaggregated by subgroups. Students with Disabilities, ELL students, and Economically Disadvantaged have shown steady increases since 2007, but we should note that students with disabilities are performing below the other subgroups. n = 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 SWD 78 86 63 59 49 ELL 35 34 28 40 Econ. 14 In Summary… Number of students performing at or above proficiency has increased by over 20% since 2006 Number of students above proficiency or “exceeding” on the Reading CRCT is increasing while number of students at proficiency or “meeting” on the Reading CRCT is decreasing Black, White, and Latino/a students are performing at similar levels in 2010 on the Reading CRCT Students with Disabilities are performing below other subgroups on the Reading CRCT, but still showing steady increases each year Let’s review back over what we noticed…

19 Math CRCT: Grades 2 to 5 When analyzing our Math CRCT performance by looking at our subgroups, we can see that, again, our students with disabilities are performing below our other subgroups. 20 In Summary… Proficiency in Math CRCT scores is increasing, especially in the “exceeds” category Students at Austell are performing slightly higher than the state or district levels on the Math CRCT Black and White students are performing lower than Latino/a students in 2010 Students with disabilities are performing below the other subgroups in Math (as well as Reading) In summary, we noted that…

21 Discussion Strengths Weaknesses
Number of EIP students are decreasing each year. What can we contribute to our success with these students? The “exceeds” category in both reading and math is showing significant increases. How can we continue to move students from the “does not meets” and “meets” categories to the “exceeds” category? Weaknesses Students with Disabilities are performing below other subgroups. How can we specifically focus on the needs of these students to increase their achievement? More students are following in the Economically Disadvantaged category. How can we ensure these students maintain a high level of school performance? Let’s sum up our over all strengths and weaknesses…
