1 Reactions in Aqueous Solution
Chemistry Reactions in Aqueous Solution

2 Net Ionic Equation – an equation for a reaction in solution that shows only those particles that are directly involved in the chemical change. Complete Ionic Equation – equation that shows dissolved ionic compounds as dissociated free ions. Spectator ion – an ion that appears on both sides of an equation and is not directly involved in the reaction.

3 Ex: AgNO3(aq) + NaCl(aq) → AgCl(s) + NaNO3(aq) Complete Ionic Equation: Ag+(aq) + NO3-(aq) + Na+(aq) + Cl-(aq) → AgCl(s) + Na+(aq) + NO3-(aq) Spectator Ions: NO3-(aq) and Na+(aq) Net Ionic Equation: Ag+(aq) + Cl-(aq) → AgCl(s)

4 Do practice problem p. 343 #28 and 29

5 Predicting the Formation of a Precipitate
The rules of solubility are found in Table 11.3 on p. 344 Chapter 11 Quiz Thursday.
