THE MIND IS WHAT THE BRAIN DOES
What is the purpose of the remarkable complexity, activity, speed, and evolution of the brain? It is the mind. The function of the nervous system is to process information. All the information in your nervous system is your mind. Your mind- like any information- is not physical: you can’t touch it, but it is still real. The brain represents your mind. Therefore, all mental activity- your thoughts and feelings, joys and sorrows – requires neural activity. - Dr. Rick Hanson

“By taking just a few extra seconds to stay with a positive experience—even the comfort in a single breath—you’ll help turn a passing mental state into lasting neural structure.” “The remedy is not to suppress negative experiences; when they happen, they happen. Rather, it is to foster positive experiences—and in particular, to take them in so they become a permanent part of you.”  “Being able to self-activate positive experiences—to call up inner strengths at will—is fundamental to coping, well-being, and everyday effectiveness. With practice, these experiences and strengths will increasingly activate on their own.”  “you can manage your mind in three primary ways: let be, let go, let in.” ― Dr. Rick Hanson

What difference do you think it might make if children were taught restorative practices for healing? What difference would it make for you? For our community and beyond?

Thank you! Shelley Swan
