2 Extend the Theme Theme Question: How do communities change, and how do they stay the same? Focus Question: How have new ideas changes communities? Lets take a closer look at our focus question. I know about a bus that becomes a boat! I once saw people on a bus who were on a tour of the city. Then it turned into a boat and went into the water. This helps people travel through the city more easily. What can you use or do because someone invented it?

4 Determine Important Information -When we use this strategy, we think about which ideas are most important to remember. -Lets look at pg. 6 and use multiple strategies to remember information. The words the Past in the title tell me that the text has information about the past. That information is the most important. Visualizing can help me understand the important ideas. The author mentions yesterday and the day before. Visualizing what I was like when I was a baby helps me understand the past.
