1 On Tuesday, March 8, 2016 L’Anse Creuse residents will be asked to vote on The Non-Homestead Millage Renewal Election.

2 What is non-homestead property?
Non-homestead property refers to commercial, business, rental properties, vacant land and second home properties. By law, school districts must levy 18 mills on such property in order to receive its full pupil foundation allowance from the state.

If the proposal is defeated, will my taxes decrease? NO

4 Why do we need this Non-Homestead Renewal
Why do we need this Non-Homestead Renewal? The authorized Non-Homestead Millage for L’Anse Creuse Public Schools is scheduled to expire in 2016. Without a renewal, our per pupil funding will drop to the lowest in the county and result in a $14 million annual loss to the district’s operational budget.

How is this money used? The money received from the Non-Homestead Millage supports our annual operational budget. It pays for such things as: textbooks transportation equipment utilities classroom supplies staff

6 Failure of the proposal would result in the approximate loss of $14 million of the district’s budget.

7 To Summarize… The Non-Homestead Millage
WILL NOT INCREASE TAXES Is an existing 18 mills levy on commercial, business and rental properties in the school district Has no impact on homeowner’s property taxes Provides 13 percent of the operating funds for L’Anse Creuse Public Schools each year Is required to receive the full foundation allowance established by the state Is funding that goes directly to the district to help pay operational costs to educate students
