1 Daoism

2 What is Daoism (Taoism)?
Philosophy based on the teachings of Laozi, “The Old Master”.

3 The Dao = The “way” or “path” of nature

4 Daoism Quote Nothing in the world is as soft and yielding as water.
Yet for dissolving the hard and inflexible, nothing can surpass it.

5 The universe is governed by an invisible, impersonal, natural force – The Dao.
The Dao can only be sensed, not rationally known. It flows through all of life.

6 The Universe of Opposites:
Find the Balance! Yin Masculine Active Light Warmth Strong Heaven; Sun Feminine Passive Darkness Cold Weak Earth; Moon Yang

7 People should accept the world the way it is, live in harmony with it, and not try to change it.
It promotes a close human relationship with nature.

8 Daoism and Government Daoism rejects conflict and seeks social harmony and compromise. Believes government is the cause of many problems.

9 Creed of the Reform Taoist Congregation
"We believe in the formless and eternal Tao, and we recognize all personified deities as being mere human constructs. We reject hatred, intolerance, and unnecessary violence, and embrace harmony, love and learning, as we are taught by Nature. We place our trust and our lives in the Tao, that we may live in peace and balance with the Universe, both in this mortal life and beyond."

For example, one should allow a river to flow towards the sea unimpeded; do not erect a dam which would interfere with its natural flow.
