NISE Net partner organization Fairbanks Museum & Planetarium hosted a world-record-breaking event featuring their toolkit resources! On Friday, August 10, Main Street was closed down, street lights were shut off, and a 16 foot high stage was erected, all in an effort to break the world record for the largest astronomy lesson. With 1701 participants, the small town of St. Johnsbury, Vermont (pop. 7,250), broke the previous record of 1104! Within three months, the museum expects official recognition as a Guinness World Record holder. In January 2018, the National Informal STEM Education Network (NISE Network) sent out 250 Explore Science: Earth & Space toolkits to science and children’s museums in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. Recipients use the toolkit materials to host local events featuring subject matter experts and collaborations with other local organizations. Similar events had 1,300,000 participants in 2017.
