3 A little about you…. Please complete the Student Data Survey at this time. The survey will be collected alphabetically. Wait for instructions please. While you do this we are going alphabetize your seats .

4 Syllabus… If its in the syllabus, you are responsible for it!!!!
I will go over some highlights in this PowerPoint, but it is your responsibility to read the syllabus and ask any questions you have. If its in the syllabus, you are responsible for it!!!! Be sure to get the syllabus signed and put it in your binder. This will be part of your binder grade.

Pencils – Lead and colored pencils. Highlighter. Scientific calculator.(Chemistry only) USB Flash Drive. Lab book containing graph paper.(Chemistry only) Red pen Glue sticks 3 – Ring binder or folder (No more than 1”) with 3 Dividers: Bellringer Vocabulary Notes

8 Web Page, Gizmos, Schoology, and Text books.
All are online: Check regularly There is a new APP to access this information. Source for make-up work and Lesson Plans, etc. Grade Calculator and other tools and information. Register for Schoology and Gizmos, etc. ONE time only, soon! Lookups and deletes cost 2 Chem$/Bio$. Get all make-up work from web first then see me only if necessary.

9 Uniform… Tops : white, black, royal blue collared polo
and new this year, spirit shirts, SDSH only. Bottoms: black or khaki pants or shorts. shorts must be of proper length! blue jeans on Fridays ONLY! Shoes: closed toe shoes! no flip flops, crocs nor open toed shoes. ID: in possession at all times. You need it for lunch too. I will not kick you out. I will send down a uniform violation. 3 violations = Saturday school 

Arrive on time! Bring Materials. Organize your thoughts by taking notes. Listen and speak respectfully… Share ideas within groups. No food or drinks in class!

12 Assignment Criteria… See Syllabus.
All work must be completed in time allotted. Late work will NOT be accepted. All work must be neatly done and legible. Homework will be posted on school website. Make sure you check daily! Make up work for EXCUSED absences only!

13 Heading: John Doe 1/1/14 Per. 3 pg. 20, #1-3 Name, Date, Period must be on the UPPER RIGHT of each assignment. Assignment must have a title with page numbers, etc. on the Upper Left.

14 Things to remember about Electronic Devices (including smart phones)
Allowed: Use as a class resource. Not allowed: Texting, Headphones, Phone calls, Non-class videos, etc. Please turn off the ringer or set to vibrate.

15 Textbooks The book is on your portal.
We encourage you to use the digital text. If you must have a paper text, you must print out form #7088 from my webpage and complete it and bring it to me to receive a text. Lost texts cost $84.95 – Chemistry/$ Biology

16 Lab Fees Lab fees will be collected quarter 2

$ Chem Dollar $1 Participation Grade per quarter: $10 = A $8 = B $7= C $6 = D Extra Credit point for ea. additional $ In Avogadro We Trust $1 $ Bio Dollar $1 $ In Pasteur We Trust $1 $ Earth/Space Dollar $1 $ It’s a Small World $1 CHEM $ Bio$ The first 10 are your required participation grade. The next 20 are extra credit (no more than 20 extra per quarter. Earn them by participating, going to board, etc. Restroom pass costs $1 (Limit once per period). Tardy cost $1/5 min. (If you are more than 5 min. late, in addition to $, further discipline is likely). You may roll over your extra $ to the next quarter. They are yours, do what you want with them.

21 Exams Biology will take county interim and topic exams. These exams will count for a grade. Biology EOC = 30% of final grade. Chemistry will have comprehensive will have county quarterly exams as well as tests and quizzes at the teacher’s descretion. Be prepared.

22 National Science Honor Society
Very active club Earn community service Field trips Pinning, membership certificates, and senior cords = good resume for college Requirments: 3.0 overall GPA, unweighted 3.5 GPA Science, weighted Good conduct and attendance record.

23 Grade Reporting Dates Progress Reports: 5th week of each quarter.
Failure Notices: 7th week of each quarter. Grading Periods End : October 29, January 17, March 22, June 6 (Report cards are sent home 7-10 days later) The gradebook will close for all work and make-up work with the exception of Chem$ and Bio$ on the Friday PRIOR to the date above each quarter!

24 How can you achieve success?
Be on time! Complete all work on time. Make Up work on time! Participate, anticipate! Listen and follow instructions! Set high expectations for yourself. I know I will!
