There are 7.1 billion people in the world and 7.4 billion active mobile phones. Facebook – 1.3 billion profiles worldwide 300m photos uploaded every day Youtube – 4 billion videos watched every day 60 hours of video uploaded every minute WhatsApp – 34 billion messages sent every day

4. Some facts…
In % of children aged 8-11 were ‘friends’ with someone online that they had never met
40% of 13-18year olds admitted SEXTING
60% of year olds admitted to seeing inappropriate images of others
Children as young as 8 years old are blackmailed or exploited for photographs they have posted online

9. What can you do? Have the conversation early and often
Ask your child what they do online (including phones)
Let your child teach you how to use social networks and games
Know who your child is talking to online
Set rules and agree boundaries
Make sure content is age appropriate
Use parental controls
Make sure your child’s privacy is protected
Check your child knows how to use reporting tools
Ensure internet access is in an exposed place within the home – there should be nothing to hide
