1 Titration

2 Titration We can tell how many moles of an acid and a base will react from a balanced chemical equation. Because of this, we can calculate the strength of one by knowing the strength of the other. This is called titration. The goal of titration is to get the [H3O+] to equal the [OH-].

3

4 Titration Equation MB X VB = MA X VA M= Molarity or Concentration
V= Volume in Liters

5 Steps: Write down your known values. Convert all mL to L.
Put your known values into the titration equation. Solve for your unknown. Don’t forget units!

6 Example: A 25 mL solution of H2SO4 is completely neutralized by 18mL of 1.0 M NaOH. What is the concentration of the H2SO4 solution?

7 Example: What is the molarity of H2PO4 if 15 mL is completely neutralized by 38.5 mL of 0.15 M NaOH?
