1 Module M10: Participatory 3D Modelling
An introduction By: Giacomo Rambaldi Module: M10

2 About this Module First Unit: Introduction to Participatory 3D Modelling About Participatory 3D Modelling (P3DM) Video on P3DM (20 min) Preparation for a P3DM exercise Second Unit: The map legend Exercises and reflections This Module is composed of four Units.

3 About this Module Third Unit: Hands-on P3DM exercise
Working on a real 3D model plus a number of related exercises Fourth Unit: Capturing data from a 3D model and geo-referencing them For Unit 3, we have prepared a small 3D model which we will use to replicate a real world situation. The blank model has been assembled ahead of the exercise. Unit 4 is about extracting data from a 3D model and minimising errors. The methods we will use are suitable for replication in difficult conditions like remote areas. Essentially we are going to look at how to capture data via high resolution digital photography and how to geo-reference the resulting images for on-screen digitising.

4 Module’s learning objective
After completion of the Module, you will be in the position to describe the P3DM method and plan an exercise. After the completion of the Module, you will be in the position to describe the method and plan an exercise. If all works well, you may also be in the position to co-facilitate such an exercise. To become really conversant with the method, you have to spend at least ten days in the field with experienced practitioners facilitating a real case.
