In The Bible and Today

Some Definitions From The Dictionary A protocol of best practices rules governing socially acceptable behavior Guidelines for simple (normally ) un-spoken/unwritten manners

IN THE BIBLE: order in the church 1 Corinthians 14:40 Let all things be done decently and in order. Romans 14:16 16 Let not then your good be evil spoken of:

In The Bible and Today INTERPERSONAL INTERACTIONS BETWEEN ADULTS BETWEEN MALES AND FEMALES BETWEEN ADULTS AND CHILDREN YOUNG ADULTS/TEENS

In The Bible and Today Between adults (we will review 4 areas) 1: General interactions (speech and conversations etc..) 2: Greetings 3: Hugging 4: Praying for adults

In The Bible and Today In general speech should never imply anything inappropriate. This is anything that could be viewed as inappropriate by either of the 2 adults OR ANYONE listening Behaviors or gestures that reflect anything viewed inappropriate should not occur

In The Bible and Today What is an appropriate Greeting? Hugging vs. Hand shake? For the most part it requires personal interpretation, certainly you would not want someone to feel left out or not wanted by offering no greeting. Also understand people have different acceptance and comfort levels. So most importantly it is the other person who decides what their comfort level is Normally the female

HOW MUCH IS TOO MUCH? When one person is uncomfortable, the other may not even be aware that they made someone uncomfortable

In The Bible and Today We must also consider ages in any discussion with respect to interactions between people Generally speaking when age differences are that of 20 years or greater people may greet each other as parent/child. This would be viewed as acceptable, as long as both parties feel this way.

HUGGING Well here we go I will try to tackle this very controversial subject. Now remember these are good guidelines so lets ask ourselves a question. Are there different type of hugs? I can instantly think of 4 different styles of hugging. Before I define some of the different styles, lets look at the scriptures

In The Bible and Today Ecclesiastes 3 1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: 2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; 3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; 4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

In The Bible and Today 5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; 6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; 7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; 8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

HUGS Are hugs appropriate at all?

In The Bible and Today PRAYING FOR PEOPLE Again: decently and in order

PRAYING LAYING ON HANDS Men should never touch a woman below the waist line to pray for them. (The same in respect would be applicable when woman are praying for men) Above the waist contact should be limited to the head and hands, what are some scriptures?

In The Bible and Today JOHN 13:8-9 Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. 9 Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. ACTS 19:11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: 12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.

In The Bible and Today Acts 5:12-20 (King James Version) 12 And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch. 13 And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them. 14 And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.) 15 Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.

In The Bible and Today SO – Pertaining to prayer for people, a shadow, handkerchief was proven effective methods for healing in the bible Peter said, wash my head and my hands also. Another words these are certainly appropriate places to touch others.

FOR THE ADULTS ADULT INTERACTIONS WITH CHILDREN (HUGS) The simplest explanation is this: 1: The child must initiate 2: It must be within the CHILDS comfort level

FOR THE YOUTH/CHILDREN ADULT INTERACTIONS WITH CHILDREN The simplest explanation is this: 1: Avoid the appearance of a situation that could be viewed as inappropriate 2: If something doesnt feel right, it probably is not 3: How to escape a questionable place, I have to go to the restroom Which is totally true if you leaving a situation to walk into a restroom will keep a situation from developing, then you have to do it.
