Now that we know our basic food vocabulary, we can discuss recipes and meals. Let’s look at this basic recipe for Spanish Tortilla. Patatas Cebolla Huevos Leche Aceite Sal y Pimienta Tomate La receta: the recipe Los ingredientes: the ingredients Cocinar: to cook

6 ¿Qué necesitas? (What do you need?)
If we wanted to answer this question, we would need to write los ingredientes (the ingredients). ¿Qué necesitas? Yo necesito __________. If you need to guess on ingredients, that is fine… but use your best guesses!

7 ¿Qué necesitas? (What do you need?)
Answer in a complete sentence using “necesitar” (conjugate!) and name at least 5 ingredients for each. If you get stuck, think of spices or toppings!

8 ¿Qué cocinas? (What are you cooking?)
Huevos Sal Pimiento Tomates Lechuga Queso Answer in a complete sentence in Spanish, but it’s okay if meal name is in English. “Yo cocino...” Sal Pimiento Mantequilla Pasta Tomates Bistec Pan Pollo Queso Sal Pimiento Tomates Lechuga

9 ¡Cultura! In different countries, meals are eaten at different times of day and have different importance. In Spain, ALMUERZO is the longest/biggest meal of the day and can last 2 hours (sometimes during their afternoon break called “siesta”). Dinner is eaten very late at night… usually around 9 or 10 PM! In parts of Spain, “tapas” (or small plates) are shared in the early evenings among friends.

10 Prática Independiente
Food can be saludable or insaludable. Draw a triangle on your paper (like the food pyramid!). At the top of the triangle, draw and label a few unhealthy foods. At the bottom of the triangle, draw and label several healthy foods. Label everything in Spanish (include at least 10). Healthy foods go at the bottom because it’s bigger and you should eat them more often- like on the real food pyramid. (healthy) (unhealthy) After we sort our food, we will share out about whether our comida is saludable o insaludable. Ejemplo: Los tomates son saludables.

11 Desayuno, almuerzo, cena...
¿Cuándo comes...? (When do you eat…?) Name the meal when you eat the following foods. Write in a complete sentences. Ejemplo: Yo como huevos para el desayuno. *cuidado* → conjugate comer AND para=for
