1 Digital Print Finishing
Equipment Overview for Cutting and Creasing Digital Print Samples and Displays Mark Bibo Director of Packaging Equipment Sales Gerber Technology

2 Why is finishing equipment needed
What types of digital print finishing equipment exists? How does finishing equipment register printed graphics

3 Why is finishing equipment needed Printed graphics and displays need to be precisely registered, creased and cut. Digital print speeds and increased market acceptance has created a demand for more than just a few samples and prototypes. Short turnaround times and customization needs are driving a market need for digitally finished printed graphics. Combination digital printers/finishing systems have yielded un-desirable results. A printer and a cutter is needed.

4 Types of Digital Finishing Equipment Static Tables Fixed table tops Material is held in place with vacuum. Material and finished product manually loaded and removed. Dynamic Tables Incorporate Conveyor table tops Material is loaded manually or put into cutting position via conveyor. Options exist for automatic loading equipment both in sheet form and roll form. Finished samples are moved off the table via conveyor. Robotic arms are available to remove finished goods Dual gantry systems provide multiple cutting heads

5 Print Graphic Registration Print graphic registration uses existing cut data and printed registration marks to register and align material with printed graphics and ensure accurate contour cutting is possible. Contrast Sensors Print registration dots are read by contrast sensors and correct for material distortion in rigid materials. The camera registers the actual dimensions and positions on the printed result. Then, finishing is adapted to the shape of the graphics. Cameras integrate with software and correct for material distortion in rigid and flexible materials. QR and bar code job data can be read by camera.

6 Static Tables Tables are designed with fixed table tops and material is held in place with vacuum. Material is manually loaded and finished samples are manually removed. Variety of knife cutting tools based on materials being cut. Creasing tools with multiple wheel diameters Routers added to process rigid materials

7 Types of Digital Finishing Equipment Dynamic Tables Tables are designed with conveyorized table tops and material is held in place with vacuum. Material is loaded manually or put into cutting position via conveyor. Options exist for automatic loading equipment both in sheet form and roll form. Finished samples are moved off the table via conveyor.
