4-7 Sequences and Functions
What is a Sequence? An ordered list of numbers that often form a pattern. A function that relates the term number to the value of the term. What is a Term of a Sequence? Each number in the list. What is an Arithmetic Sequence? A sequence in which the difference between consecutive terms is constant. What is the Common Difference? The constant difference in an arithmetic sequence. You can find any term of an arithmetic sequence if you know the first term and the common difference.

4-7 Sequences and Functions
What is the Rule for an Arithmetic Sequence? The nth term of an arithmetic sequence with first term A(1) and common difference d is given by: A(n) = A(1) + (n1)d A(n) = nth term of the sequence A(1) = first term of the sequence n = term number you are looking for d = common difference in the sequence
