1 HOW to start a business as a LIVE BANd, and How do I start getting booked for gigs?

2 Executive summary What Makes me Awesome
First, you have to get really clear about exactly what makes you unique as a performer. Start by making a big old list of the things that make you an awesome human (because as a performer you are your craft), then make a big old list of the things that make you a uniquely awesome performer. Everyone has something that makes them uniquely awesome, even if it’s just that they make an amazing quesadilla. : ) Find your specific quesadilla recipe. This will also help with branding etc.

3 Who will I serve Then, I need to be clear about what the market is looking for. IE - wedding couples, graduations, quincineras etc. research is done to see what these people will want. Make a big old list and compare list of what they need with your list of what you offer. See where you can fit in and fill that specific need.

4 What I will be offering Rhetorically speaking do you bring classic cocktail jazz that will inspire wedding guests to get cozy and celebrate love? Do you bring rocking pop top 40s that will get wine tasting groups up and on their feet for a night each couple will never forget?

6 packages and prices Packages First research will need to be conducted on what other bands are charging - BUT more importantly, figure out what I need to make to have the life i want to live. It is often hard for party guests to realize what is going into a performance. You have to be really clear about exactly what you need to charge, and be willing to say no if someone isn’t able to pay it. (If you are new to this… it’s ok to take less at first, but make sure you are getting footage and referrals so that you are able to find value in the gig.)

7 prices Next I will put into place some sort of financial management system. You don’t need to do anything fancy, but setting up a separate bank account is a highly advisable if you want this to be a real business. Then use something like Mint: Money, Bill Pay, Credit Score & Investing (Free) or Quickbooks Online or Freshbooks to manage the mula.

9 I will Put it Out There After you’ve figured out what you are offering and crafted a clear message, and what you’ll charge - put it out there. Use a platform like a website, youtube channel or even a Facebook page. If you get a domain name you can forward it to a landing page, youtube page, or a Facebook page. Don’t let the giant task of putting together a website overwhelm you if you aren’t ready for it. Just get it out there. *** Bonus Tip *** If you can also get really clear about WHY you are wanting to offer your services as a wedding band… you will have a much easier time connecting with your potential clients. It will also give you motivation to keep going when it seems like too much work and you want to give up.

10 Lastly I will Build a Tribe
There are a million ways people can go when looking for party or wedding entertainment. If you are able to connect with like minded people who have the same underlying world views or mission, you will have a much better chance at success. Don’t be afraid to celebrate others in your industry as well.
