1 TERM 4: People Who Help Us
LEARNING LINKS: What will be at explored, achieved, discussed and learned in our class this term? UNDERSTANDING THE WORLD (People & Communities, The World, Technology) PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT (Moving & Handling, Health & Self-Care) PERSONAL, SOCIAL & EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT (Making Relationships, Self-Confidence & Self-Awareness, Managing Feelings & Behaviour) Can you name any people who help us? What do they do? Who might help us in Charfield? Do you know anybody who works as a nurse, police officer, fighterfighter… Can you use the computer to find out any information about the people that help us? Can you talk about the similarities and differences between the people who help us? Are there any patterns? -Can you catch a ball? -How does aiming help to improve your throwing, catching and kicking skills? -How can we improve our throwing/catching and kicking skills? -Can you throw a ball/beanbag and hit a target? -What happens to our bodies when we exercise? -How can we keep healthy? -What does it mean to have ‘courage’? -When have you been brave and courageous? Have you or a friend shown courage when facing something new/scary? How can we show courage in school? -Can you share and take turns? Why is it important that we do this? -What are our classroom rules? Why must we remember these rules? How will others feel if you break our school rules? -What are you good at? What do you find tricky? How could you help at home? -Practise throwing/catching and kicking balls. -Practise holding scissors correctly and develop cutting skills. -Practise holding a pencil correctly and forming letters. -Talk about ways of keeping healthy and safe. How could you help at home? Do you know anyone that works as a police officer, firefighter, nurse…etc? Ask them about it! Use books and the computer to find out about people who help us. Can you use the computer keyboard to write any simple words you find out? Keep an eye out for any people who help us when you are our and about. How could you help at home? -Encourage your child to be courageous when faced with new experiences. -Draw attention to things which your child is good at and equally to things which they find tricky/need to practise. RECEPTION THEME TERM 4: People Who Help Us COMMUNICATION, LANGUAGE & LITERACY (Listening & Attention, Understanding, Speaking, Reading, Writing, Phonics) MATHS (Numbers, Shape Space & Measures) -Can you find the total by counting two groups of objects? -Can you record your answer in a number sentence? (eg. 2+1=3) -Can you take away/subtract some of the objects. How many have you got now? -Can you use some language related to time? Eg. o’clock -Can you identify and name 3D shapes? Can you describe what they look like? - Can you think of a number and find one more and one less? -Write a story about a superhero or somebody who helps us. -Write a list of things that a nurse might do each day. -Can you draw a story map to retell a familiar story? -Can you talk about and describe the characters and main events? Write simple sentences about what superpower you would have if you were a superhero Can you think of any questions to ask the people who help us that come into school and visit? EXPRESSIVE ART & DESIGN (Art, Music, Role-Play, Design Technology) -How carefully can you cut with scissors? Can you create people who help us puppets? -Can you use junk modelling materials to create a fire engine/police car? -Can you design and create your own superhero costume? - Can you pretend to be a police officer, nurse, teacher..etc? -How can natural materials be used to create a collage? -Can you learn a song about People Who Help Us? How could you help at home? -Share books with your child every day (story books from home/the library, plus school reading books.) -Help your child to use non-fiction books and the computer to find out about people who help us -Practise writing every day! Write in cards, write lists, write simple words and sentences! How could you help at home? -Go on a 3D shape hunt at home or when you are out and about. What can you find? -Practise saying the number that is 1 more and 1 less than a given number. -. Practise adding up small quantities to find the total. How could you help at home? Provide a variety of resources for your child to explore, experiment and create with at home (e.g. paint, glue, sellotape, paper, card, string, cardboard boxes.) Can they create a superhero picture/collage/card. Encourage their own designs/exploration.
