1 Properties of lenses

2 Learning goals We are learning to the types of lenses.
We are learning to find images in lenses.

3 1. Converging lenses Lens that is thickest in middle
Causes light rays that are parallel to PA to converge, or meet at one point called the principal focus (F)

4 2. Diverging lens Thinnest in middle
Causes parallel light rays to diverge, or spread apart

5

6 terminology focal point (F) where light either comes to a focus or appears to diverge from a focus on the opposite side of the lens is represented by F’ focal length, f, is the distance from axis of symmetry to principal focus measured along principal axis.

7 Emergent ray light ray that leaves lens after refraction

8 Learning goals We are learning to the types of lenses.
