4 Let the light of Christ shine in our lives
Gather The Lord be with you And also with you Let the light of Christ shine in our lives

5 Receive One of the scribes came near and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that Jesus answered them well, he asked him, ‘Which commandment is the first of all?’ Jesus answered, ‘The first is, “Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.” The second is this, “You shall love your neighbour as yourself.” There is no other commandment greater than these.’ From the Gospel according to Mark, chapter 12, verses 28 to 31

6 Engage This year, Christian Aid highlight the story of Jocelyne who lost everything when Hurricane Matthew tore through Haiti. She now lives under a tarpaulin sheet and is scared she won’t survive the next hurricane season. So, this Christian Aid Week, will you build hope in Haiti? Christian Aid know how to make it happen – of the 700 houses they built after the 2010 earthquake, just one needed to be repaired after Hurricane Matthew. But they rely on the kindness of people like you to be able to do more, and reach more of our global neighbours in their hour of need.

7 Engage Video suggestion … Vilia’s storm Some discussion ideas … What are some of the reasons why people are made holmeless? How can we help those who are homeless? Discussion techniques - Go back to the Bible passage ask “How does the theme link with the Bible passage?” Discuss the question in pairs for 30 seconds then invite a response from each pair. Use quick-fire answers e.g. throw a soft bean bag / toy to a student, when they answer they throw it back and you quickly throw to another student. Simplify the question - Invite quick one-word answers, write them on the board, then reflect on the answers – see connections. Activity suggestion … Join Christian Aid’s climate change campaign

8 Respond Amen O God, you promise a world
[Reflect for a minute on the worship theme and our engagement …] O God, you promise a world where those who now weep shall laugh, those who are hungry shall feast, those who are poor now, and excluded, shall have your kingdom for their own. We want to work for this world. Amen Prayer / reflection technique – Give a summary of the theme and any responses that students may have made, then invite everyone to be still (remind no books open etc – lessen distraction). To pray or reflect on today’s worship. Be quiet for one minute. Then say the prayer …

9 Go out into the world with the light of Christ
Let us bless the Lord Thanks be to God Go out into the world with the light of Christ
