Task 1: Spend a moment brainstorming words you know as Gaeilge on this topic. Make notes! Then move on to the next slide!

I suppose there’s no escape 12. it will have to be done. Task 3: Some of the words that Áine used in the recording are in the box opposite. Some will be familiar and others will be new. See how many you can understand. Add any new words to your vocabulary notebook.

An jab is measa liom sa teach ná an iarnáil – is fuath liom é! Bhuel, an níochán ar fad is dócha – na héadaí a ní, a thriomú, a fhilleadh agus a chur i bhfearas – ní bhíonn aon deireadh leis! Ach is cuma liom an chócaireacht – is maith liom a bheith ag cócaireacht agus ag bácáil agus ní chuireann sé sin isteach orm – ná na boscaí lóin ná aon rud sa chistin – is maith liom é sin ar fad. Ach jab eile nach maith liom ná dul go dtí an t-ollmhargadh chun an tsiopadóireacht a dhéanamh – déanann m’fhear céile é sin. Déanann na páistí cuid den obair – an bord a ghlanadh, an meaisín gréithe, ullmhaíonn siad roinnt béilí beaga simplí, cóiríonn siad na leapacha chomh maith – rudaí bunúsacha, is dócha. Braithim ar shlí, nach mbíonn aon deireadh leis an obair tí – ach is dócha nach féidir éalú, caithfear é a dhéanamh. Task 4: Listen to the recording again but this time use the tapescript (opposite). Listen as many times as you want – try to use the script to read along with Áine as she talks.

6 Task 5: See if you can record yourself saying a few sentences on the same topic, using Áine’s recording as a model. Option: Send the recording to a fellow-parent in your class (on your phone, maybe) if you can, and get some feedback on your effort!

7 Language corner Note the structure ‘is maith liom a bheith ag cócaireacht’. How do you think it differs from the sentence ‘Is maith liom cócaireacht’? Can you see the difference between the sentences in the 2 columns below? Is maith liom peil Is maith liom a bheith ag imirt peile Is maith liom spórt Is maith liom a bheith ag imirt spóirt Is maith liom ealaíon Is maith liom a bheith ag déanamh ealaíne Is maith liom bácáil Is maith liom a bheith ag bácáil The first column states that you like the thing in general i.e. I like sport in general. The second column states that you like doing the thing i.e. I like playing sport (as opposed to watching it, or watching others playing it, for example!). See if you could compose a few sentences about your likes and your pastimes based on those structures.
