High School and Middle School students in Duval County report significant levels of depression and thoughts of suicide. The number of students who have planned and attempted suicide is concerning and warrants increased attention and intervention from school personnel, mental health professionals, parents, family, and friends. The data we will present enable us to consider interventions by age, gender, and health zones in Duval County. It is imperative that we directly address the issues that lead students to consider suicide as the best or only course of action to deal with their challenges. It is also important to tune into ways to support their resilience and assist them in developing healthier, more life-sustaining coping strategies. * Indicates statistically significant difference 2013 vs. 2017 ^ Indicates statistically significant difference 2015 vs. 2017

HS females are using alcohol at a statistically higher rate than males, while males are using cigarettes at a higher rate than females and both males & females are using electronic vapor products at an equal rate. High school students at the beaches (HZ6) and Greater Arlington (HZ2) continue to use nearly all substances at a higher rate than Duval County overall. Very concerning is that 5 of 6 health zones report current electronic vapor product use at a higher or significantly higher rate than the county MS rate. MS students at the beaches (HZ6) and Greater Arlington (HZ2) show the highest percentage of early onset of alcohol (before age 11) and are higher than the county rate. Lifetime MS marijuana rates in all Health Zones but 3 are higher than the county rate. * Indicates statistically significant difference 2013 vs. 2017 ^ Indicates statistically significant difference 2015 vs. 2017
