1 Why Theology? Because the people of God long to know their God.
“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6 NIV11-GK)

2 Why Theology? “As the Deer” As the deer panteth for the water
So my soul longeth after Thee You alone are my heart's desire And I long to worship Thee “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6 NIV11-GK)

3 Why Theology? You alone are my strength, my shield
To You alone may my spirit yield You alone are my heart's desire And I long to worship Thee “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6 NIV11-GK)

4 Why Theology? You're my friend And You are my brother
Even though You are a King I love You more than any other So much more than anything I want You more than gold or silver Only You can satisfy You alone are the real joy giver And the apple of my eye Written by Martin J. Nystrom • Copyright © Universal Music Publishing Group, Capitol Christian Music Group “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6 NIV11-GK)

5 Why Theology? “Christian theology is the attempt to understand ultimate [eternal] questions in light of Biblical revelation; it is faith reflecting on its [divine] object, faith seeking understanding (Heb 11:6).” (Theology I) “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6 NIV11-GK)

6 Theology is a sincere and humble effort to love God with all our minds (based on Matt 22:37; Mark 12:30; Deut 6:4-5; Deut 10:12). Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. (Matthew 22:37 KJV)

7 From Term I. . . Theology as a Movement
Authentic theology is always on a journey from the finite to the infinite. Thus, we have a pilgrimage of theology.

8 From Term I. . . "Thus saith the LORD the maker thereof, the LORD that formed it, to establish it; the LORD is his name; Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not." (Jer 33:2–3 KJV) "‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’" (Jer 33:3 NIV11-GK)

9 From Term I. . . Humankind must mature to receive from the absolute.
Infinite to finite (Isa 55:8-9) Relative to absolute (Phil 3:10-12, 15) Divine communication is unfolding (1 Cor 13:8-9; Deut 29:29) "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts." (Is 55:8–9 KJV) "I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me." (Phil 3:10–12 NIV11-GK) "All of us, then, who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you." (Phil 3:15 NIV11-GK) "Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away." (1 Cor 13:8–10 KJV) "The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law." (Deut 29:29 KJV) "“The LORD our God has secrets known to no one. We are not accountable for them, but we and our children are accountable forever for all that he has revealed to us, so that we may obey all the terms of these instructions." (Deut 29:29 NLT-SE)

10 From Term I. . . "I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come." (John 16:12–13 KJV)

11 From Term I. . . "With many similar parables Jesus spoke the word to them, as much as they could understand." (Mark 4:33 NIV11-GK) Christ truly understands us and loves us. [This might be a good time to pray for our requests and needs.]
