Grace Chun, MSN, RN; Louie Jamir, BSN, RN; Hope Pizzarusso, BSN, RN; Southern California/Irvine Medical Center PROCESS CONCLUSION PURPOSE Structure Irvine Safety Council Includes: Fall Prevention, Safe Patient Handling, Workplace Safety, and TeamSTEPPS Manager and Staff Co-Lead for Each Sub-Committee “Exemplar” to Guide Member Activities and Expectations Strategies Engaged Clinical Staff in Conducting Safety Conversations Peer to Peer Feedback on Use of Safe Patient Handling Equipment Bedside Competencies Completed by Frontline Staff Champions Annually Reward and Recognition: Ice Cream Social, On-the-spot Recognition, Daily Huddle Spotlight, Unit Competition Through ensuring an aligned and engaged structure, the nursing staff and interdisciplinary colleagues were able to drive improved outcomes. Injury Incidence Rate Decreased From a High of 1.60 to 0.54 Accepted Claim Rate Decreased From a High of 2.09 to 1.09 Nurse Engagement : National Survey Includes 6 SPH Questions: KP Irvine Outperformed National Benchmark in All 6 Questions Trended Improvement From 2015 to 2016 Irvine Medical Center will reduce patient handling injuries by 50% in all inpatient nursing units including the Emergency Department for 2016 in preparation of a future goal of zero patient handling injuries.
