1 How to Write a Bibliography Card
Bibliography cards must be on a 3x5 index card Find a book and assign it a number. Usually the first book you use would be number ‘1.” Place that number in the upper left corner of the card Enter the source’s information in accordance with MLA format. Not sure? Go online and Google “MLA Citation Machine,” choose the type of source being accessed, and then fill in the boxes. The machine will construct the proper MLA citation A good idea, though not required, is to place an example of the proper parenthetical notation for that source on the card under your source

2 How to Write a Research Card
You are now preparing to take notes from your source Research cards can be 4x6 or 5x8. They cannot be 3x5 Place the source’s number in the upper left corner of the research card Write down your information, usually a chunk or two. Only write on one side of the card – don’t overfill with too much information Once you have written down your information, place the page number(s) in the upper right corner of the card. If there are multiple pages, just hyphenate (example 78-82)

3 How to Write a Research Card
The last thing you need to do is give the card a short title that will be placed center-top This short title is just a quick way of identifying what information is on the card All your short titles need to be different. You can use the same title but use numbers to ensure difference Example: If you have three cards on Lincoln’s childhood and you just want to use Childhood as a short title you can use Childhood 1, Childhood 2, and Childhood 3
