Finding out about conferences: a great resource: the Linguist List talk to faculty about conferences/mailing lists in specific areas student conferences: Illinois Language and Linguistics Society ILLS 1 & 2 4th floor bulletin boards Categories of presentations: Independent papers Thematic panel proposals (watch for different deadlines!) Posters (ask for format guidelines!) Work-in-progress, workshop, demo, etc Submitting abstracts to conferences: society membership, deadlines, format Funding sources (check deadlines!): Graduate College Area Studies (Title VI) centers conference support (rare) Department of Linguistics presentation: dry-run (brown bags, dept. seminars, reading groups)
