Development Matters Document Seven interconnected areas of learning and development ~ Prime Areas ~ Specific Areas

5 The Early Years Foundation Stage Learning Journey.
The Foundations of the Development Matters - Early Years Curriculum is planned around four main themes: A Unique Child Positive Relationships Enabling Environments Learning and Development Every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured. Children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or a key person The environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children’s development and learning Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates and all areas of Learning and Development are equally important and inter-connected

8 Learning Through Play All areas of development are implemented through planned and purposeful play. These opportunities for learning can be child-initiated tasks or led by an adult.

9 Assessment and Progress
We build a picture of your child’s progress by; Daily observations to understand their level of achievement, interests and learning. Recording what the child says and does, taking photos and analysing a combination of this information. Early in the first term we form a Baseline Assessment and set next steps from this information Parent’s Evenings and Wow Workshops. We ask you to participate in your child’s learning by commenting on tasks and events in their lives

10 The Early Learning Goals
All Prime and Specific Areas have age and stage related targets and which end with an Early Learning Goal This is the expected level of progress children may have attained by the end of their entire EYFS experience. Early Learning Goal for Writing Children use their phonic knowledge to write words in ways which match their spoken sounds. They also write some irregular common words. They write simple sentences which can be read by themselves and others. Some words are spelt correctly and others are phonetically plausible. Our aim is to regularly inform you of where your child is in terms of their age and stage in relation to these goals

11 Handwriting Example

12 Early Learning Goal for Number Children count reliably with numbers from 1 to 20, place them in order and say which number is one more or one less than a given number. Using quantities and objects, they add and subtract two single-digit numbers and count on or back to find the answer. They solve problems, including doubling, halving and sharing.

13 Parent Partnership as a Key School aim
We recognise that some children will just be 4 years old when they join us. In other words they are: 48 months old or 192 weeks old In other words they are very little! We recognise that some children will just becoming 5 years old when they join us. In other words they are: 60 months old or 240 weeks old In other words they are a little bit bigger

14 Home/School Learning We look to maintain a shared responsibility.
