2 Web Technologies Course aim: to give students an essential overview of the tools, techniques and underpinning knowledge required to create and host simple web pages.

3 Students should be able to:
Web Technologies Students should be able to: Analyse user requirements to produce a brief Use initial design and documentation techniques and take into account considerations when developing a small web site Design and optimise web images using a drawing or paint package Use web authoring package to create a web site. Use web standards to create web sites (e.g. XHTML, CSS) Use components such as tables, images, etc. Use web testing startegies

Set suitable colours for page and text Text manipulation (font, size, style) Paragraphs Converting images into suitable formats

5 Web Technologies Undertake user requirements analysis:
Design web sites using prototyping Create appropriate diagrams Produce a brief that details the client requirements

6 Web Technologies Use appropriate development tools:
Create web page templates Embed images within the web pages Use tables to enhance web page layout Create web page anchors (bookmarks) Create hyperlinks Create image maps Use meta tags Use appropriate web authoring software packages

7 Web Technologies Test web sites: Verify all links work
Use different browsers to preview pages Verify all components appear as expected

8 Web Technologies Use graphics software: Resize images within web sites
Apply transparency to images Use file compression methods Apply "web safe" palettes Create appropriate web banners

9 Web Technologies Publish and maintain web sites:
Use software to manage web site development Publish web sites to the Internet

10 Web Technologies Assessment:
Assignment covering both practical web site activities and underpinning knowledge. A report (3000 words) worth 100% Assignment will include both Design component Implementation component
