To a wide extent, globalization has been a slow process that has occurred for thousands of years of human history!

6 Economic The increasing interdependence of world economies is a result of: Cross-border trade of commodities (goods) and services The flow of capital ($) Wide and rapid spread of technology

7 Technological Advances in travel (trains, boats, planes, etc.) have changed the globalization process Can carry more people/goods across long distances faster than ever before Technology has significantly sped up the process of globalization through information sharing Internet Mobile phones Computers Satellites

8 Cultural The transmission of ideas and values around the world to extend and intensify social relationships The Internet, pop culture, and travel are common ways that different cultures are “consumed” by the world

9 Political Refers to the growth of the worldwide political system, both in size and complexity Includes = national governments, social movements, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) Declining importance of the nation-state The creation of the United Nations is a classic example of political globalization Multilateralism = an alliance where multiple countries progress a goal

10 Military The process which demonstrates the growing extensity and intensity of military relations among political units Network of military ties and technological advances (from steamships to satellites) 3 facets = The geopolitical order (rivals, allies, etc.) Global system of arms productions and sale (we sell weapons to other countries, Country X buys weapons from Country Y, etc.) The “governing of violence” (where to deploy troops and when)

How would you describe it in detail? (Wrapping, words, design, etc.) What do you call it? How is it referred to?

14 Local Analysis How does it relate to other aspects of social life?
How is it used, bought, and sold? In what context does it exist? Who benefits from it? Who suffers from it? Why does it appear the way it does? How does it directly relate to your life?

15 Global Analysis Does this object exist in other countries?
If so, in what form? How is it used? How is this use different than its use in the US? Is it altered in any way when used elsewhere? Does it affect life on the planet in any significant way? Where and how is it made?

16 Historical Analysis When did the object come into existence?
Why did it appear at this time? How has the object changed over time? What other aspects of social life have changed as a result of this object? How has your use of the object changed over time? What will this object be like in the future? Will it still exist?
