2 LNS® Turbo Edition Technical Overview FAE Training January Copyright © 2005, Echelon Corporation. All rights reserved.

3 LNS Turbo Edition – Key New Features
Compatibility Performance improvements Enhanced scalability LONMARK® support Database repair Database back-up Enhanced i.LON® 10 and i.LON 100 Support LONWORKS®/IP channel firewall & routing Enhanced security System image upgrade Resource refresh

4 Compatibility Application, plug-in and database compatible with prior LNS releases Down-revision databases converted to current format upon first open Down-revision PCs don’t understand newer format databases Tested and supported on, and compatible with Windows XP Windows 2000 Windows Server 2003 Asian and European language versions in addition to U.S. English Microsoft Terminal Services (including Fast User Switching support on Windows XP) Not tested or supported on Windows 95, 98, 98SE, Me, or Windows NT® Installation known to not work on these OSes

5 Performance Improvements
A wide range of performance enhancements make LNS Turbo Edition a faster, more powerful productivity enhancement tool 20% overall improvement 10 to 100 times improvements for many critical tasks Examples Monitor 10,000 network variable updates per second 9 second start for a 10,000 point HMI Monitor 100 networks simultaneously from a single, central HMI The installation and maintenance time required for large networks rivals that of smaller networks

6 Enhanced Scalability Installation and maintenance of large networks retains the high performance experienced with small networks Allows multiple users to simultaneously open multiple databases Technicians with separate tools can work on the same or different parts of the automation system at the same time 100 simultaneous LNS databases open for HMIs (was 20) 50 simultaneous LNS databases open for management (was 21) Up to 9 simultaneous local clients per database, combined with either 9 LNS/IP clients, 9 LONWORKS/IP clients, or 9 LONWORKS NSI clients Faster task processing and coordinated work processes reduce installation and maintenance costs

7 LONMARK Support Extensive LONMARK 3.3 support including support for passive tools Enhancements make it simpler to build and deploy LONMARK devices Improved changeable network variable type support Automatic scope determination Improved user-defined formatting support Device Specific CPs Invalid value support ResyncToResources LONMARK 3.3 guidelines support Enhancements and rule relaxation

8 Database Repair Built-in database repair tool
Allows users to repair database problems caused by application malfunctions, hardware failures, or instability in Windows OS Checks for orphan and duplication objects as well as broken interfaces. Best when used in concert with Database Back-up Saves valuable trouble-shooting time

9 Database Back-up Built-in database back-up method
Allows a complete back-up of open LNS databases without shutting down running applications Yields enormous savings should the automation system need to be recovered and restarted because of a catastrophic server PC failure or user error Allow systems to be brought back on-line faster Live Database Back-up

10 Enhanced i.LON 10 and i.LON 100 Support
Check i.LON connectivity from the LONWORKS Interfaces item in the Control Panel

11 Enhanced i.LON 10 and i.LON 100 Support
Dynamic IP address support Tracks and stays current with dynamically-changing, publicly-addressable i.LON servers Use i.LON servers even when ISP only permits DHCP IP addresses i.LON 10 i.LON 100

12 Enhanced i.LON 10 and i.LON 100 Support
Uplink and downlink reconnect support Required when using unstable Internet connections Asynchronous reconnect No delays to other connected sessions during downlink or uplink reconnect i.LON 10 i.LON 100

13 LONWORKS/IP Channel Firewall & Routing
Use LONWORKS/IP channels in corporate and home automation systems that private IP addresses Connect LNS Server and Full Clients from behind a NAT firewall to LONWORKS/IP channels Fully compliant with ANSI/CEA-852 LONWORKS/IP routing standard Supports up to 256 devices on each LONWORKS/IP channel Backwards compatible with i.LON 1000s (40 device limit) i.LON 600

14 Enhanced Security Ideal for securing tamper-sensitive applications
Enhancement of existing ANSI/CEA authentication mechanism Secure domain-to-domain authenticated transfer during commissioning Protects LonTalk® authentication keys when used on the LonTalk network RC4 encryption protects LonTalk authentication keys sent through i.LON 10 Ethernet Adapter and i.LON 100 Internet Server connections Use both together for end-to-end protection…exclusive feature! Enhanced LonTalk authentication RC4 encryption HMAC MD5 authentication

15 System Image Upgrade Upgrades the Neuron® firmware image in the field, over the network, without touching the device Example: The device manufacturer sends an updated application image The installed devices have a different version of the system Image than the one for which the application image is linked As long as the compatibility requirements (below) are met, LNS can upgrade/downgrade the system image as needed to support the application image Compatibility Requirements All Neuron 3150® core based devices Version 6, 7, 13, or 14 system images System image in non-volatile memory (such as Flash) Lowest 16K write-enabled

16 Resource Refresh Scenario…
A large number of devices have been installed into a network The resource files weren’t set up and thus the user-defined configuration properties and network variables can’t be properly formatted Previously the integrator removed all of the affected devices from the database added the resource files commission all of the devices again Now the integrator simply adds the resources files, calls the refresh method, and the problem is fixed! Saves integrators hours of time when resource files are initially forgotten
