2 Goals for this Sermon Series:
1.) NOT to ruin your Christmas Season 2.) NOT to ruin your favorite Christmas songs 3.) Look at the origins and “theology” of some of these Christmas classics 4.) Try to find some Biblical lessons in them

3 Written on the hottest day of the year in California in July of 1945,
“Let It Snow” is NOT a Christmas or a holiday song. It’s a love song of a man visiting a woman in winter.

4 Oh, the weather outside is frightful, But the fire is so delightful
Oh, the weather outside is frightful, But the fire is so delightful. And since we've got no place to go, Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Oh, it doesn't show signs of stopping, And I've brought some corn for popping. The lights are turned way down low, Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

5 When we finally kiss (say) goodnight, How I'll hate going out in the storm! But, if you really hold me tight, All the way home I'll be warm! The fire is slowly dying, And my dear, we're still good-by-ing. But, as long as you love me so, Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

6 While the main point of “Let It Snow” is a song of temptation,
to give in to the flesh; Mary & Joseph’s responses to God’s Spirit demonstrate the type of humility and submission we should strive for.

7 Luke 1: 26-38 Gabriel informs Mary about her being chosen by God to give birth to the Messiah.

8 the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May it be to me
Luke 1:38 “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May it be to me as you have said.” Then the angel left her.

9 In spite of the “weather outside being frightful” for her & Joseph because of this miraculous baby; Mary submits and basically says “Let It Snow.”

10 Just as Mary submitted to God’s timing and plans,
so also Joseph followed the Spirit’s leading and warnings when it was time to flee to Egypt; as well as when it was time to return to Nazareth.

11 of the flesh cannot please God.”
Romans 8: 6-8 6 “The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. 7 The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. 8 Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.”

12 During this Christmas Season, will you choose to say “Let It Snow” when God’s Plans collide with the desires of your flesh?
