1. “Summer Vibe” Critical Reflection

2. Conventions
Use
This video follows the conventions of similar music videos in that it tells a story and it leaves the viewer feeling relaxed and peaceful.
Challenge
This challenges common conventions of similar music videos in that the majority of the video is not reality and did not actually happen. Most videos are supposed to be perceived as an event that took place whereas my video is showing a daydream that was entirely in the character’s head as she slept in class.

3. Representation of Social Groups
This video depicts the social group of teenagers in general. Any high school student can relate to feeling bored in class and to day-dreaming of being at the beach instead.
In the intro to the video , the teacher’s voice gets drowned out by the sound of waves and a ripple effect is use in the transition. These show the transition into a dream-like state.
The activities shown at the beach are common beach activities teenagers partake in. For example, surfing and playing soccer on the beach are common beach activities in this social group.

4. Engaging with Audiences
This music video for Walk Off the Earth’s song “Summer Vibe” is relatable because it depicts a teenager bored in class. As the song’s target audience is teenagers and young adults, the people who would view the video empathize with the character’s boredom and would relate to the appeal of a beach day when stuck in class.

5. Distribution
This Music Video would be distributed through online websites like youtube and vimeo.
It would also be sold through stores like itunes.

6. Development of Production Skills
Through this assignment I believe that my production skills improved exponentially. As I separated from my group for the editing of the video, I had only a limited number of clips, so my editing skills were tested by having to make the clips work. I only had a few clips from in the classroom and since my group would not let me attempt to put them in the video, I had to make the few I had fit together. This allowed me to really get creative and pushed me to work hard to get my video to work. In the end I got it to work, and although having more clips would have helped, I managed to make the limited amount that I had work.

7. Technologies
The technologies used for filming were a Cannon VIXIA HF S10 camera.
For editing, I used my MacBook Pro and iMovie. I should have used premier, but the video of all the clips from the beach was done on iMovie and I felt that using two different editing software programs might not look right, so I stuck with iMovie.
