If you have a notebook, folder, highlighter or glue stick to show Ms. Hatch, pull it out NOW. The Starter: Pull out your PINK PACKET and turn to box 18: Objective Trackers Pull out your HIGHLIGHTER Take a Ride: Get the two GREEN papers from the purple counter Pick up your Interactive Notebook (INB) from the purple counter – 4th period is PURPLE

Fill in your “Table of Contents” Fill in “Chapter 1” on the tab Put a “1” in the circle at the top Write 1.1 in the circle next to the first blank line Write “Whole Number Operations” on the first blank line Number the pages in your INB (every side of every page) up to at least 30 Write pg. 3 on the little line next to 1.1 Clear your desks: Only keep out your GREEN guided notes, interactive notebook, highlighter and a pencil. Everything else, off your desk! 

5 Answer: 9,591 people attended the art festival.
The phrase “total attendance” tells us that we need to find the SUM of each day’s attendees. Don’t forget to line up the place values and then add! Answer: 9,591 people attended the art festival.

6 Answer: 575 more people attended on Day 2 than on Day 1!
The phrase “what is the increase” tells us that we need to find the DIFFERENCE between Day 2 and Day 1’s attendance. Don’t forget to line up the place values and then subtract! Answer: 575 more people attended on Day than on Day 1!

7 Answer: There were 1,140 chicken nuggets sold!
We see the word “total” so we know we need to either find the SUM or the PRODUCT… But, since we have 95 people who each will get 12 nuggets, we have 95 groups of 12. This phrase means that we need to find the PRODUCT of 95 and 12. Don’t forget to line up the place values and then multiply! Answer: There were 1,140 chicken nuggets sold!

9 Answer: Each payment was $35.
This time, we want to know how many groups of 24 are in $840. This means that we need to find the QUOTIENT of 840 and 24. Don’t forget put the dividend (840) inside the divide bar and the divisor (24) outside. Answer: Each payment was $35.

11 Answer: 141 rides are given, with only 23 people on the last ride.
