9 Top to Bottom Ranking Schools are compared to other schools in the state by utilizing z-scores (a statistical measure that describes how far you are from the middle of the pack). Z-scores that are positive, show that you are above the 50th percentile when compared to the state. Z-scores that are negative, show that you are below the 50th percentile when compared to the state.
