8 Steps to Volunteer Fill out online application
Notify school that application is complete Return FDLE Waiver to school Complete fingerprints Contact Teacher to schedule a time to volunteer **Very Important Check SPAM folder

9 Volunteer Guidelines Volunteer Hours 9:00-2:30 (1:30 Wednesday)
Schedule with teacher Sign IN and OUT each time Display volunteer name tag appropriately Volunteers should not discipline students Dress appropriately Act as a role model Uphold student confidentiality *After hours volunteering can be coordinated and logged

13 Mentor Program Purpose What is a Mentor?
Positive Role Model Friend Coach Advisor Self-Esteem builder Advocate Purpose A relationship to build trust between mentor and the student. Some of the students do not have positive relationships with adults outside of school.

Become a level II approved volunteer Mentors will be contacted as the need arises

15 Mentor: Best practices
Be consistent! If you need to miss a session, let the teacher or Mrs. Pinkston know Remain visible when working with children Be active listeners when working with students Keep positive attitudes when working with students

16 Mentor: Best practices
Hold high expectations Keep student information confidential If you suspect abuse or if the child shares any information that is alarming to you, please notify Guidance department K-2 Donna Marie Shryock Bonnie Gault Encourage feedback from students (what they enjoy about meeting with you)
