The traditional story of the Gunpowder plot suggests that the Catholic conspirators plotted to kill the king with gunpowder. But they were foiled when Francis Tresham sent a letter to Lord Monteagle who passed it on to Robert Cecil who discovered Guy Fawkes.
But is there more to it than that.....
Some Historians believe the plotters were framed by James and Robert Cecil. It has become an historical conspiracy theory.
