1 Rolajuwon Clark, Utah State University
Behind the Scenes Rolajuwon Clark, Utah State University Introduction What interested me about this program was being able to work on campus here in Logan, which would give me an opportunity to get a feel of campus life. What I hoped to gain out of this program was to have some experience working within the university and getting to know more people that could later help as references. Becoming more familiar with campus was great because I have now experienced Logan before coming here for Graduate School. Week 1 Museum of Art Library For the remainder of the program, we were worked in the Library’s three departments: reference, Digital Initiative, and special collections and archives. We were given an overall project about the Swaner Preserve and the EcoCenter in Park City, Utah. Out of the departments, I especially enjoyed the Digital Initiatives (DI). While in DI we worked with scanners and it was unique handling all the old documents the library holds. During the first week we toured the colleges within Utah State University (USU). My favorite tour was the College of Agriculture because it works with animals that provide milk for the Aggie Ice Cream. Knowing what majors and programs each college has to offer is interesting. After every college tour I found a major I’d never thought would be offered. The first half of this Mentorship Program was with the Nora Eccles Museum of Art (NEHMA). I worked with each staff member in the museum and gained knowledge on how the museum functions. Our main research focus was an untitled piece by Garo Z. Antreasian (shown right). This research was to be used in NEHMA’s “From the Vault” section on their social media website. Job shadowing a student worker in “the vault” was interesting because it holds thousands of pieces of artwork that nobody normally gets to view. Conclusion This whole experience was really interesting and not what I expected. It really motivated me to continue my education to see where it takes me and to come to Logan for graduate school. To work in both the Museum of Art and Merill-Cazier Library was unique, professional environment. There are so many opportunities to get involved here on campus, which is something I love. Acknowledgements I would like to thank the NEHMA staff as well as the Library staff for taking their time to show me what their jobs consist of and giving me the chance to work under them. I would also thank the facilitators for helping us and showing us to every college. Rolajuwon Clark Utah State University Social Work
