1 Cellular Energy Glucose ADP ATP

2 Cellular Energy Cells get their energy from the breakdown of sugars, fats, lipids,Carbohydrates Cells need energy to carry out all of life's processes Reproduction Growth Movement Diffusion

3 Cellular Energy The cell must transform the food molecules we eat into a useable form ATP This usable energy comes from the bonds between atoms in the ATP molecules

4 Cellular Energy ATP Adenosine Tri-Phosphate ADP Adenosine Di-Phosphate
1 sugar molecule (adenosine) 3 phosphate groups ADP Adenosine Di-Phosphate 2 phosphate groups

5 ATP Bonding

6 ATP Bonding The bonds between the phosphate groups of the ATP store energy When the ATP molecules are broken down the bonds between the Phosphates and the Sugars are broken The breaking of the bonds releases energy The ATP becomes ADP and a phosphate

7 ATP Bonding

8 ATP to ADP Monosaccharide + Monosaccharide -> Disaccharide

9 Energy Uses Make larger sugar molecules Enzymes Maintain Homeostasis
Sucrose Condensation/Hydrolysis reactions Enzymes Help speed up other reactions Maintain Homeostasis Active transport
