1 Opening Activity: June 18, 2018
I will stamp Evidence #9 for your lab #25. Group quiz tomorrow – I will create your groups. If you want to do it alone, please sign clip board at front. Which of the following observation or inference was NOT made by Darwin (key pts in natural selection)? WHY Individuals in a population vary Natural resources are limited Most populations vary in size All species can reproduce successfully Homework: Check source, get your NBin ASAP! All assignments due Today!! Study for evolution quiz tomorrow. I can… Construct explanation for evidence of evolution.

2 Today’s Goals Video and review evidence for evolution
Construction Explain for Evidence for Evolution. Work time to study for quiz tomorrow and complete packet if you have not done so.

3 Bozeman Biology As we watch the video add any notes to each section of your lab notes.

4 Evidence for Evolution
Molecular Biology – DNA The more similar two organisms’ DNA are, the more likely they are related. They came from a common ancestor.

5 Evidence for Evolution
5. Fossil Record Fossils across continents Same species appear to have lived on multiple continents Fossils shows gradual changes throughout time of structures Stratification – Fossil age determined by where it is found in sediment

6 Evidence for Evolution
6. Comparative Anatomy Homologous Structures - Wings, hands, feet of different species have almost identical structures. The more common structures are between organisms, the more closely related they are.

7 Evidence for Evolution
7. Comparative Anatomy Vestigial Structures - Structures that seem to do nothing for the species, but are important in similar species. Organisms that have the same structures are more closely related or shared a common ancestor.

8 Evidence for Evolution
8. Embryology – The study of developmental stages Make observations as you watch the following clips – what is similar? What is different? Human Development, start at 1:15 Chick development Zebrafish Development

9 Evidence for Evolution
8. Embryology The study of developmental stages – Vertebrate embryos that have the same developmental pattern are more closely related.

10 Evidence for Evolution
9. Phylogenetic Trees or Cladograms Illustrate evolutionary relationships based on shared inherited characteristics.

11 Lab #25 Evidence for Evolution
What does the evidence suggest has happened to organisms on earth over time? Construct an explanation and use at least 2 pieces of evidence to defend your ideas. Remember – defending and connecting your ideas to your claim is called REASONING – don’t forget it! DUE TODAY – Tear off the back page and turn ito basket at resource table. (with your name on it of course!) When Finished study for quiz tomorrow.
