1 Motion Continued Recap of Speeding Velocities
Velocity as a Vector Quantity Changing Velocity Acceleration Defined Sample Calculations Let’s look at some graphs Homework: Accelerate away.

2 Are we all done with Speeding Velocities????
Do you have any questions regarding Distance Time graphs? Are you thinking Slope of a Distance Time graph tells you Velocity????

3 Velocity…..it’s a Vector!
Remember that Velocity is a vector quantity, which means it has MAGNITUDE AND DIRECTION.

4 Acceleration Acceleration is defined as the change in velocity over time. This means that whenever the velocity of an object is changing, it is ACCELERATING. Mathematically: a = Velocity (m/s) Time (s)

5 Acceleration a = Vf - Vi t The units of acceleration are m/s/s OR m/s2
What Does this really mean?????? An example…………………..

6 Consider the following Problem:
Your car is at a stop light waiting for the light to change. When it turns green you PUNCH the Accelerator for 5.0 seconds and achieve a velocity of 72 m/s. What is your Car’s acceleration?

7 Consider the following Problem:
If we roll a ball down a ramp for 8.0 seconds and it accelerates at a rate of 2.6 m/s2 What is your ball’s final velocity?

8 Consider the following Problem:
We will ignore Air Resistance for the time being…… I fall off a cliff that is 2,600. m high. How fast am I traveling after 15.0 seconds? What is my speed? What is my velocity? What should I be thinking?

9 Homework/In class? Accelerate Away…..Let’s get it done before the weekend. Please Read Chapter 2 in your textbook……it is an easy read. Bring your moon walking shoes for next time???
