1 CBIT – the UK perspective
Laura Aylett Senior Policy Advisor, International Climate and Energy 18th April 2017, Copenhagen

2 Why do we support CBIT? The UK is giving £10m from the International Climate Fund and £1m from the Scottish Government’s Climate Justice Fund because… Transparency is a fundamental building block of the Paris Agreement: Tracks overall progress against high-level goals Shows progress against countries’ NDCs Feeds into the global stocktake cycle Domestically, reliable information and analytical capability is crucial for: Understanding where your emissions come from Creating evidence-based policies Supporting wider development goals

3 But transparency is complex
It requires: Technical knowledge Access to data and methodologies Institutional and governance structures Currently developing countries have different capacities …which is where CBIT comes in.

4 Hopes for CBIT The UK would like to see:
Proposals focused on countries’ specific requirements Links made between transparency and NDC implementation Innovative ideas to share learning Close alignment with the MPGs of the transparency framework More donors coming forward, and the long-term future of CBIT work secured in GEF-7

5 Thank you
